Writer Souvankham Thammavongsa is the author of four poetry books and the short story collection How to Pronounce Knife (Little, Brown, 2020), a New York Times Editors’ Choice, a Time Magazine 100 Must-Read Book of 2020, and winner of the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize. The stories that makeup How to Pronounce Knife focus on characters struggling to find their bearings in unfamiliar territory, or shuttling between idioms, cultures, and values. Moderated by Denise Cruz, Associate Processor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia.
