Deborah Paredez is the author of the poetry collection, This Side of Skin (Wings Press 2002) and the critical study, Selenidad: Selena, Latinos, and the Performance of Memory (Duke 2009), winner of the 2010 Latin American Studies Association Latino Studies Book Award Honorable Mention and the 2011 National Association of Chicana/o Studies Book Award Honorable Mention. Her poetry and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, Poetry, Feminist Studies, Latino Studies Journal, TDR: The Drama Review, and elsewhere. She serves on the editorial board of The Journal of Popular Music Studies. She is co-founder and co-director of CantoMundo, a national organization for Latina/o poets. At Columbia, she teaches courses on American poetry and performance, race, gender, and sexuality in the Writing Program and in the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race (CSER).
