Christine Prevas is a PhD Candidate in English and Comparative Literature, with a focus in gender and sexuality in contemporary horror media. Their interests range from literature to film to video games, with a particular interest in experimental form and non-traditional and collaborative forms of digital media narrative. Their dissertation "Architectures of Gender in the American Haunted House" utilizes architectural theory to examine the ways in which gender is produced, constructed, or disrupted by the built environment of domestic spaces.
Before coming to Columbia, Christine earned an MPhil in English Studies (Criticism and Culture) from the University of Cambridge with a dissertation titled "‘Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay to mould me man?’: Transgender Readings and Reanimations of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein," and worked as a teen services librarian in the Baltimore County Public Library system. They are an avid player and designer of tabletop roleplaying games and other forms of collaborative storytelling.
