a reading to celebrate the tercentenary of "The Rape of the Lock"

Wednesday, March 5, 2014 - 6:15pm
310 Philosophy Hall
Event Category:

Every semester the Undergraduate Committee likes to sponsor at least one event for our students that allows them to interact outside of class, not only with other English majors but with the rest of the department as well, both faculty and graduate students.  This spring we will be hosting an event on Wednesday, March 5, at 6:15, celebrating the 300th anniversary of Pope's The Rape of the Lock.  (Anniversary of the second edition, that is; but that's the famous one.)  It will be happening right in Philosophy Hall, in the Writing Center (room 310).

The centerpiece of the evening will be a reading of the poem, and we are inviting you now to volunteer.  If you would like to be one of the readers -- each reader will probably get about fifty lines, depending on how many people we get -- please let Prof. Erik Gray know (eg2155@columbia.edu).  We think it's important to have as much departmental participation as possible, so please do consider joining in the reading, or else just stopping by.  The event will include refreshments, and, as an added bonus, student volunteers will also be offering free haircuts to anyone who wishes.
