Placement & Employment

The Department runs a robust placement program for graduate students who are nearing the end of their doctoral work and are seeking academic appointments. In consultation with dissertation committees, students in the 5th or 6th year are encouraged to participate in the fall placement seminar, which meets every week from the first week of classes to help students develop job application materials (c.v., cover letter, abstract, teaching statements, writing sample) and prepare for interviews. Mock interviews with faculty members are held in early December. A précis of the job application process, as well as sample job materials, can be found on the CourseWorks-Graduate Collaboration Site. If you are unable to access the site, please write to Pamela Rodman ( to request permission.

Placement contacts for 2019-20 are Professor Denise Cruz (  and  Professor Lauren Robertson (
