Majors and concentrators are always welcome in the English Department office in 602 Philosophy Hall.
On the left before entering the office are two bulletin boards where material relevant to undergraduates is posted: internships, summer programs, writing contests.
Inside the office, you can find a variety of printed forms, such as course lists, distribution lists and major worksheets. More importantly, you can find Nelly Balbuena herself, who can answer all manner of logistical questions (her desk is to the right, past the faculty mailboxes).
The Committee on Undergraduate Education schedules several meetings each year to address various aspects of the major and concentration. At the beginning of the fall there is back-to-school reception for majors and concentrators, where you can chat informally with other students and faculty. Shortly thereafter, there will be an information session about the Senior Essay Program. Mid-fall, usually in late October, there is a meeting at which several faculty members speak with students who are interested in applying to graduate school. In the spring, the department holds an open house for newly declared majors. Times and locations for these and other meetings will be announced through the major-and-concentrator email list and will be posted on the Department Calendar, and on the office bulletin boards.
