Biography
Elena is a third-year Ph.D student in the department of English and Comparative Literature, working on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British poetry, particularly Romanticism, ecocritical and lyric theory, and their intersections with Caribbean literature. Her recent article, “Repetition and Clare’s Lyric of Withdrawn Revelation,” appeared in European Romantic Review, developing the concept of a lyric that gestures toward but cannot subsume nonhuman objects. She has also published “Misreading the Air: Narrative Ambivalence and the Burden of Representation in Dinaw Mengestu’s How to Read the Air” in ARIEL: A Journal of International English Literature, examining migrant narrative and irony through diasporic critique. Elena holds a master’s degree in Romantic British literature from the University of Oxford.
