Research Interests

Justin Huwe is a second-year PhD student in the Department of English and Comparative Literature. He studies queer aesthetics in contemporary art and literature, with a focus on representations of pain, trauma, and unhappiness. Recently, he completed his MA thesis on Douglas Stuart’s 2022 novel 'Young Mungo,' bridging theories of sexuality and disability to explore the portrayal of heteropatriarchal violence. His work also engages questions around melodrama and performance.

In 2023, Justin earned BAs in English and Education & Social Transformation from UCLA. Before coming to Columbia, he worked as an art museum educator for four years, as well as a high school English language development instructor in the San Francisco Bay Area.
