Please join us in discussing Diana Taylor’s recent work ¡Presente! The Politics of Presence at the IRWGS Theory Salon. This virtual event will take place on October 9, at 12-1:30pm (EST) via Zoom. Please see the attached poster below. In ¡Presente!, Diana Taylor asks what it means to be physically and politically present in situations where it seems that nothing can be done. As much an act, a word, an attitude, a theoretical intervention, and a performance pedagogy, Taylor maps ¡presente! at work in scenarios ranging from conquest, through colonial enactments and resistance movements, to present moments of capitalist extractivism and forced migration in the Americas. Our discussion of the work will begin with a short presentation from Diana Taylor and then a brief Q & A, led by Mia Florin-Sefton and Alex Pekov. Participants will then be invited to share their thoughts and questions on the text.
