Summer of ISHQ: Issues in Society, History and Queerness

July 16, 2020
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
America/New_York
Online Event Zoom

The Centre for Studies in Gender and Sexuality (CSGS) at Ashoka University is delighted to present the Summer of ISHQ, a weekly webinar series starting Thursday, June 18. ISHQ is an acronym dear to our hearts because it translates as “love," “desire," “passion" across the languages of Urdu and Hindi. Join us to engage with some of the pioneering scholars and thinkers from diverse areas of inquiry, as they discuss a range of theoretical and political issues in relation to gender and sexuality.

The sessions are designed to be crisp and there will be a dedicated time for participant questions in each. We promise to you an intellectually exciting set of exchanges with the Summer of ISHQ! The series will feature eminent scholars and theorists like Judith Butler, Lee Edelman, Gayatri Gopinath, Naisargi Dave and Jack Halberstam, among others.

For the first session, they will have Professor Judith Butler and Professor Ratna Kapur present their ideas on the relationship between rights and sexuality. The session will be moderated by Professor Madhavi Menon and will be followed by a live discussion with the audience.
