2020 Presidential Teaching Awards

May 14, 2020

Marianne Hirsch has been named as an inaugural recipient of the 2020 Faculty Mentoring Award, honoring senior faculty who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to faculty mentoring through their work with tenure-track and mid-career faculty in developing their careers.

Jean Howard has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2020 Presidential Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching by Faculty.  These are the University's highest teaching awards, marking excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate students in both the Arts and Sciences and the professional schools.

Diana Newby was named as one of the recipients of the 2020 Presidential Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student. These honor outstanding graduate student teachers for the influence they have on the development of their students and their part in maintaining the University's long standing reputation for educational excellence.

Aidan Levy was shortlisted for the 2020 Presidential Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student.

The Presidential Teaching Awards were established in 1996 as a way to honor the University’s best teachers. They are conferred based on the original criteria for the awards for faculty and graduate student instructors. To receive this award is a great honor, as it demonstrates commitment to excellent and often innovative teaching as recognized by the entire Columbia community.

Denise Cruz and Nicholas Dames have won Senior Faculty Fellowships at the Heyman Center for the academic year 2020-21.
