Professor Jim Shapiro has been awarded the 2024 New Deal Book Award for The Playbook: A Story of Theater, Democracy, and the making of a Culture War.
The Living New Deal is a nonprofit public history organization that was established in 2007 at the Geography Department at University of California, Berkeley. The organization works to map the vast legacy of New Deal public works and artworks, which has never been adequately documented before. The Living New Deal established the Annual New Deal Book Award in 2021 to recognize and encourage non-fiction works about U.S. history in the New Deal era (1933-1942).
Congratulations Professor Shapiro!
