Nicholas Dames, Theodore Kahan Professor of Humanities, has won the Great Teacher Award from the Society of Columbia Graduates. He will receive the award on May 31, 2025 at Faculty House as part of Reunion.
First awarded in 1949, the Great Teacher Awards are given annually to one or more members of the faculties of the College and SEAS respectively. Nominations for the Awards are received from the Offices of the Deans and the recipients are selected by the Society’s Board of Directors based on the professors’ abilities to stimulate, challenge and inspire undergraduate students; for their demonstrated interest in students; their ability to relate positively to students outside the classroom; and for their recognized standing in their respective academic disciplines.
