Gayatri Spivak Inducted Into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences

Gayatri Spivak is University Professor in the Humanities and a founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University.

The Department of English and Comparative Literature is very pleased to share that University Professor in the Humanities, Gayatri Spivak, has being inducted into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in a ceremony that took place over September 9-10, 2022.

The event celebrated members elected in 2020 and 2021, including Angela Y. Davis, Hortense Spillers, Hilton Als, Ian Baucom, Carol Anderson,  Kimberlé W. Crenshaw, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, Sanjay Gupta, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Maria Hinojosa, and many more.

Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences honors excellence and convenes leaders to examine new ideas, address issues of importance to the nation and the world, and advance the public good.
