Denise Cruz, Chair and Professor of English and Comparative Literature, has received the Society of Columbia Graduates Great Teacher Award.
The Society's primary mission is to recognize and support great undergraduate teaching at the College and Engineering School. This is done through the Great Teacher Awards; which was presented at an annual event held on June 1st in Faculty House.
Undergraduate students at Columbia College have consistently raved about Professor Cruz’s courses not only for the engrossing topics she covers, but also for the creative way in which she uses a wide array of media and instructional techniques to engage students in active learning and discussion in her classes. Professor Cruz joined the Columbia faculty in 2018. A recipient of both the Columbia Presidential Teaching Award and the Mark Van Doren Teaching Award in 2021, and the Lenfest Distinguished Columbia Faculty Award in 2020, Professor Cruz’s outstanding teaching year after year has attracted not only students majoring in English or in Ethnicity and Race Studies, but also students fulfilling the Global Core requirement of the Core Curriculum.
Congratulations, Professor Cruz!
